Banner Ad

What Are Banner Ad?

A banner ad, also known as a web banner, is an online ad displayed on a web page. Banner ads were some of the first ads to appear on the internet. They focus more on visuals and images rather than text and redirect users to an external site when clicked.

Banner ads come in various types, such as square ads, leaderboard ads, skyscraper ads, and traditional horizontal banners at the top or bottom of a web page. They can be sold by individual websites or placed through an advertising network.

A typical horizontal banner ad is 468 x 60 pixels. They are usually bought based on the number of impressions, measured in CPM (cost per thousand impressions).

Difference Between a Pop-Up Ad and a Banner Ad

When viewing a website, a pop-up ad suddenly appears on the screen, covering the content. In contrast, a banner ad is embedded within the content and is meant to be part of the website, not an interruption. Pop-up ads can be more effective but are often annoying and can ruin the user experience.

What Is a Standard Banner Ad?

Standard banner ads, like leaderboard ads, are placed above navigation bars or within the main content of a web page. They are typically images sized 468 x 60 pixels.

How Do Banner Ads Work?

Banner ads have calls to action (CTAs) that encourage users to click them to view or get something else. They inform users about new products, grab attention, or increase brand awareness in a subtle way.
